Essex Senior League

Saturday 4th April 2009 - Kick Off 3pm

The Manor had Dean Frett and Courtney Mclean back in the side for this ESL League clash at Sawbridgeworth. The Braves elected to play up the slope in the first half and it was not long before the rampaging Jerry Nkrumah unsettled the home side defence with his direct and forceful running.

The visitors looked compact and sharp and could easily have gone in front early in the game but resolute defending kept them out. However it was the home side who struck first when the Manor failed to deal with an innocuous looking corner and the ball was forced home.

It did not take long for the response to come from the Braves as Jerry Nkrumah latched onto a through ball and smashed the ball into the Sawbo goal from the edge of the box, such was the ferocity of his strike , the keeper never moved. 1-1.

The visitors now really tightened the screw and after having an excellent goal disallowed for a non existant foul they forced a free kick on the edge of the home side penalty area and up stepped Joe May to curl an exquisite free kick into the roof of the net, 2-1 to the Manor.

Come the break and and the visitors lead by the same score knowing that in the 2nd half they would have the advantage of the substantial slope. As the game restarted the visitors really took control early on and it was not long before Tom Nyama made a great run down the left, put over an excellent cross for Jerry Nkrumah to add the finish, 3-1 to the Manor.

A strange period of play now followed with the visitors starting to complicate their pattern of play and allow Sawbo back into the game.

The home side took full advantage of this lack of tactics and reduced the arrears when the visitors were caught out in possession, 3-2. Manager Kevin Durrant now made some tactical subs for the visitors and they saw the game out witout further alarm and should in fact have won by a wider margin. Still as Durrant said afer the game" A win is a win and keeps us up there. My subs worked really hard when they came on and young Arun May was excellent"
