Manor under new
manager Kevin Durrant took a while to settle against
a direct Romford team but they overcame a shaky start
to play their passing game.
The length of the grass on the pitch made a subtle passing
game difficult. Romford went one up after the Manor
reserve keeper failed to deal with a relatively tame
shot and the rebound was tucked away.
Manor were at last making some inroads into the Romford
defense and after a sustained period of play were awarded
a penalty which was tucked away with no problem by Ricardo
Amado to level the scores.
Near the interval Romford forced a corner on the right
which was swung in and should have been better defended
and Romford bundled the ball in from close range.
The Manor defence and keeper needed to address some
glaring deficiencies after this goal. After the restart
the game swung Romford’s way with a couple of
near misses on the Manor goal.
Undeterred the Manor continued
to press and as in previous games showed great approach
play but lacked a cutting edge up front and continued
to spurn good chances to equalise. Substitutions were
made to try and put Romford under pressure but they
held on and ran out winners.
A draw would have been a fair result for the Manor,
a fact confirmed by the Romford manager.
