Manor new manager
Kevin Durrant had promised to strengthen the team and
duly did, so with only four players remaining from the
original squad, it soon became apparent that his new
signings were all quality players and they took hold
of the game very early on, forcing the Mauritius keeper
to make some important saves and interceptions.
For a team that
had not really trained or played together before the
match it was exciting to see the Manor playing such
a neat, tidy passing game . The defence looked comfortable
and solid, the midfield combative and fluid and the
attack sharp and incisive.
It was quite surprising that the game remained goalless
at half time. Come the second half and the Manor continued
their assault on the opposition goal and soon a Mauritius
defender under pressure fouled a Manor player in the
box and up stepped Scott Lovett to cooly slot the ball
home having sent the keeper the wrong way. 1.0 to the
Manor.
The game opened up now and new Manor keeper made an
outstanding save to deny Mauritius an equaliser against
the run of play. Manor now used all three subs and the
injection of new legs led to Mauritius starting to give
away needless free kicks and from one of these Manor
centre back Ricky Hayles converted with a superb glancing
header from a pin point delivery. 2.0 to the Manor.
The game finished at this score with the Manor running
out well deserved winners. Special thanks are due to
coach Paul Norris and Chairman Reg Curtis for overseeing
the team whilst manager Kevin Durrant was away on a
scouting trip in Europe.
