The Manor arrived
for this hastily arranged game and were happy when the
officials decided to play the match after having some
remedial work done to an area that had been frozen overnight.
The Manor started
very positively but it looked as if their goal drought
would continue as they failed to put away a couple of
early chances. Against the run of play Enfield took
an early lead from a penalty when keeper Nick Wilson
was adjudged to have fouled a home forward.
The Manor quickly
levelled the scores when the very lively Jerry Nkrumah
slotted home from close range. It has to be said that
the Manor defence was looking far from being a solid
unit and Enfield took advantage of the inability of
the visitors to clear out from the back and retored
their lead. Not to be out done, the Manor came back
strongly and Jerry Nkrumah, bouyed by his earlier goal,
levelled the scores.
The Manor were
now in control and seemed able to split the Enfield
defence at will but still looked far from secure themselves
as a defensive unit. A goal looked on for either side
and it was the visitors who struck with Joe May finishing
off a fine move to put the visitors in front, 3-2.
Great keeping
by Nick Wilson kept Enfield at bay and just before half
time the Manor failed to put away a great chance to
go even further in front.
After the break,
Enfield dominated the early exchanges and looked likely
to score, however the Manor, on a rare attack again
failed to capitalise on a another one on one and the
home side took full advantage and forced the equaliser
after yet another pooir clearance from the Manor defence.
This straw that
certainly broke the camels back as the visitors lost
all shape and composure and Enfield ran in a further
3 goals to run out winners 6-3. The difference between
the two sides was evident in the fact that Enfield took
their chances and The Manor again failed to make opponents
pay for the third match in a row.
A good win for
the home side, who deserved their points and continue
to press hard the leaders at the top of the League.
On the plus side
for the Manor, Durrant seemed to have his team better
prepared than in previous weeks and at times looked
a strong unit going forward.
Manager Kevin
Durrant said" The old adage is always true, goals
win matches, and good decision making is not something
we are doing very well at the moment. We will learn
from this and keep going as the season still holds good
prospects for us"
