League Cup Group D

Saturday 15th November 2008 - Kick Off 3pm

Manor started this game knowing that only a win would take them through to the quarter finals. Manager Kevin Durrant and his staff had done brilliantly in even getting their side to this position . The first half was dominated by the home side with their opponents offering nothing in the way of an attacking threat.

Mauritius seemed content to play with a lone striker who spent his time being caught offside. Their defence was repeatedly stretched by the Manor attack and only a succession of fouls halted the home side. The game was disrupted by these tactics from the visitors and made sustained momentum difficult. Perhaps a less lenient referee might have taken a stricter approach to the visitors time wasting and niggling fouls. Having said that, the home side should have gone in at the interval well in front but poor finishing had let them down and the game remained scoreless.

Come the second half and the Manor again fashioned several good chances but were guilty of over elaboration in front of goal and should have been more clinical and decisive. As the home side continued to press for the opening goal they were caught twice on the break and found themselves two down with 30 minutes to go. It says a lot for the spirit of the side as they still went looking for goals and first Remy Nelson slotted home from close range to reduce the arrears and secondly Joe May curled a free kick into the top corner to level the scores and set up a grandstand finish.

Try as they did the Manor were unable to fashion a winner and the score remained 2-2. Man of the match for the Manor, skipper Richard Simpson who led by example tgroughout the match. Manager Kevin Durrant said " Obviously we are all very low as we have not qualified for the next phase of the competion. I really felt that we would go through as we have got into winning ways . We now have to pick ourselves up and make a big effort in the league and the Gordon Brasted Cup as their is still a great deal to play for".
