Essex Senior League

Saturday 17th January 2009 - Kick Off 3pm

The Manor started this match still without the injured Neil Barrett and with Steve Reading unwell. Manager Kevin Durrant and his staff opted for 3 up top and after taking a little while to settle with this new formation they were certainly the equal of 2nd place Takely.

The heavy pitch meant a more direct approach was adopted by the home side although given the right conditions the Manor do try to get the ball down and play. It was evident that both sides were very much up for this encounter and chances were at a premium .

Takely went close 'but Mark Benterman made a great goal line clearance while at the other end Dean Frett looked certain to score but could not get away his shot and so come the interval 0-0.

In the second half the Manor had the benefit of a strong wind and constantly got behind the visitors defence 'but were unable to fashion a really clear cut chance that their domination warranted.

On a sporadic break by a Takely the Manor defence seemed to have lost a little concentration and even though Richard Simpson seemed to have nullified the threat the Visitors striker managed to get away a shot across the Manor keeper into the far corner, 1-0 to the visitors.

The Manor still surged forward looking for the equaliser 'but were undone by a series of bizarre refereeing that culminated in the visitors being awarded a penalty when their forward went down in the box without any contact being made. An atrocious decision and the resulting goal put paid to any hopes of a Manor comeback. 2-0 to the visitors.

Manor manager Kevin Durrant said" Sometimes you do not get out of a game what you deserve and I thought we deserved a draw at least today. I could not ask for more from the players. The spirit is strong and we have a great dressing room and we have proved time and again that we are a match for anyone in the league"
