Essex Senior League

Saturday 25th April 2009 - Kick Off 3pm

The Manor rounded off their season with a 1-1 draw at Bowers & Pitsea - a result which saw the Manor secure a credible 6th placed finish within the Essex Senior League.

Manor Head Coach Paul Norris rolled back the years with a virtuoso performance as a late substitute playing on the right of a 3 pronged Manor attack. However, it was the home side who had the better of the first 45 minutes and but for a couple of good saves by Nick Wilson in the Manor goal they might have taken a lead into half time.

The Manor lost Michael Gheorgiou to a first half injury which saw Aaron May move into midfield and Tony Hadley slotted in seamlessly at right full back. His name might not have been Rio but this was a performance that certainly was GOLD.

It was the home side that struck first. A low cross from the left was turned into the Manor net on the hour mark. However, the Manor playing their 4th game in 8 days simply refused to lie down. Courtney Linton's right wing cross was handled by a Bowers defender and the referee awarded a penalty kick, much to the fury of the Bowers dugout.

Joe May made no mistake from the spot to take him into double figures for the season and bring the scores level at 1 apiece. The Manor introduced Norris for his Club debut 15 minutes from the end, however, there was to be no late winner and Nick Wilson produced a fine late save to secure the visitors both a point and a top 6 finish.

Manor Boss Kevin Durrant said: "I'm really proud of the boys this week. 4 games in 8 days was a big ask. I was down to the bare bones today and I had to bring my coach on for the last quarter of an hour. But the effort of our players and the attitude was first class and I hope that we can take that with us next season."

Durrant and Norris will both be providing their season summaries in the next few days so keep an eye on emfc.co.uk for details.
