F.A. Vase Fixture

Saturday 6th September 03

Despite the difference in leagues manor looked more than capable of beating their Isthmian league opponents, thanks to a spirited display from Johnny Quinn, this was a classic game of two halves, the first half belonging to the visitors and the second, most definitely the home sides, the only difference, Witham scored in their half and Manor failed to convert any opportunities that came their way in the second. A dominant Witham Town had Manor on the back foot for most of the first half, but despite this, scoring opportunities were few and far
between, as the home sides defence stood firm and withstood everything that came their way. The turning point of the half was an injury to centre back Chris Barratt, the defence was reshaping when they got caught flat footed as a Witham player fired in a shot which rebounded off the keepers legs and fell to the visitors number 9 who drilled the ball home while Manor’s defence stood still. The second half belonged to Manor, as they pushed forward looking for the equaliser, efforts from Quinn, the Midford brothers Marsh and McTasney all failed to reduce the deficit. Still Manor kept plugging away and should have got their just reward when a Knapman corner fell to McTasney who was deliberately taken out just as the ball reached him, but the ref waived play on. Efejuku replaced Danny Midford as Manor threw on another striker, but despite his enormous presence the home side were still unable to capitalise on any chances they had. Manor’s M.O.M. went to David Snazel, does the simple thing when it’s needed, and played above his teenage years. Manager Kirk Whitelock was praising his players after a spirited second half display, “ I can’t fault their commitment, they played them off the park in the second half, and we deserved at least a draw, but no amount of talking will take away the fact that, at the moment we are struggling to find the back of the net, and win our first game, but believe me it will happen very soon”

Team: Richards, Jenkins, A Marsh, Snazel, Barratt, D Midford, Passfield, Scales, Quinn, G Midford, Knapman, M Marsh, Efejuku,
Wilson, McTasney, Young.
