It
was a case of tenants v landlords in this league fixture,
and
unfortunately for Manor they were made to pay in this
close encounter.
On a pitch that was in superb condition despite the heavy
rain, both side went for a victory from the off. Manor
looked the more likely of the two sides to break the deadlock,
but as so often happens, Burnham took the lead against
the run of play as Manor keeper Carl Prince made a great
save from a Riki Holmes strike, but fortune favoured the
striker as he seemed to have clashed with Prince after
the save and saw the ball run loose, which he pounced
on and rolled the ball into an empty net.
Burnham went two up a minute later as the Manor defence
stood still and appealed for offside, Kristian Down raced
onto the ball and fired past Prince for a two goal lead.
Manor had to steady the ship and when Barratt pulled up
with a damaged toe, David Jenkins was thrown into the
fray and helped turn the tide in Manor’s favour.
Whitelock had two strikes on goal that went just wide
and then further strikes from Marks, Forde, and Passfield
all went close. 2-0 at the break and again it was Manor
who started the better in the second half, and a goal
looked on the cards, David Jenkins hit a superb 30yd pass
to Lee Whitelock, he chested the ball into the path of
Delroy Forde who curled a great shot into the corner of
the net, game on at 2-1. Try as they might Manor couldn’t
manage a equaliser, as Forde & Whitelock both went
close with headers, then the inevitable happened, with
seconds remaining, Burnham counter attacked and Kristian
Agyei – Dua hit their third. Manor’s M.O.M.
went to Lee Whitelock for an awesome all round display
that deserved better. 14 year old Lewis Jones signed for
Manor today and became the youngest ever player to join
an Essex Senior side, however he only made the bench,
but it’s still a massive achievement for the youngster.
