What a difference
a game makes, after Saturdays meagre performance Manor
travelled to last seasons champions Enfield Town for
another league fixture, only this time they actually
decided to play the way the management know they can.
Despite some sloppy defending in the first 5mins which
lead to Town taking an early lead, Manor out played
the champs for 60mins and were unlucky not to come away
with all three points. Inspired by the evergreen Asa
Pamplin who lead the line superbly Manor created a number
of chances and should have ended the half on level terms,
Johnny Quinn had the best chance of the half when after
some desperate defending from the home side the ball
found it’s way to Quinn some 6yds out and he completely
missed the ball on an uneven surface. Manor took charge
in the final 15mins of the first half and went close
again when Gary Scales rose to meet a Grant Smith free
kick only to see his header scrape the wrong side of
the bar. The second half saw Manor apply even more pressure
as Knapman, Connolly and Pamplin all go close to grabbing
the equaliser. All 223 Enfield fans remained silent
as their team defended wave after wave of Manor attacks,
and with Quinn and McTasney controlling midfield there
was no way through for the Enfield strikers. Eventually
Manor got the break they deserved when a Town defender
handled the ball in the box and Quinn stepped up to
score a well deserved goal for the visitors. Marsh,
Quinn, Connolly, Knapman, & McTasney were all outstanding
for Manor, but it was ass manager Asa Pamplin who took
the m.o.m. for a inspirational performance, he did everything
but score. Manager Kirk Whitelock was full of admiration
and praise for his players after this quality display
& said “ it’s a proud moment for the
whole Manor side, not many teams will come here and
get a result the boy were superb tonight”.
