Eton Manor threw
away a two goal advantage to draw at Clapton as their
League Cup campaign got off to a stuttering start.
The game was
played at a high tempo throughout and the Manor grabbed
the lead after 35 minutes when Asa Pamplin turned the
ball in from close range from a corner. However, the
home side pegged them back before half time with a cool
finish from a right wing cross.
But after the
interval the Manor picked up the tempo. Joe May’s
well flighted free kick was volleyed home by Joe Nightingill,
for his first Manor goal, and then Danny Clarke opened
his competitive account for the club with a superbly
struck finish after rolling the defender.
With 15 minutes
to go Joe May headed just wide as the Manor looked to
make it safe. However, seconds later Steve Reading and
Carl Bailey jumped for the same ball and allowed the
Clapton forward in to roll it past Nicky Mitchell and
bring the home side back into the game.
Seconds later
and a simple miss-kick in the Manor area and it was
3-3. Then the game became stretched. Scott Lovett fired
over for the visitors and the home side flashed two
efforts across the face of goal. Then Steve Reading
headed over in the final seconds.
Kevin Durrant
was livid after the game and pulled no punches in telling
his players that they must improve he said: “You
can’t defend like that at any level. We didn’t
play well, but we had got ourselves into a position
of control of the game and we created chances. But we
defended like amateurs at times and one or two of the
attitudes on display didn’t impress me. We need
to improve massively and the players will be left in
no doubt that I expect better.”
