The Manor knew
that they would have to be at their best to compete
against one of the stronger sides in the league. Manager
Kevin Durrant and his staff made sure that the team
were suitably prepared for this tough encounter.
Honours were
about even for the first 5 minutes with Sid Nelson having
a decent effort cleared by the home defence and Manor
keeper Michael Wakefield, making his debut, had to be
alert against a lively Enfield attack. The home side
looked pacy down their right flank and from one of these
attacks a good cross came in and the Enfield striker,
Manor old boy Bradley Nelson, was on hand to slot home
the opener. 1-0 to Enfield.
Although this
was not the start the Braves were looking for, to their
credit they quickly got back into the game. Although
the visitors pressed hard they had to wait until the
35th minute to seriously threaten the Enfield goal when
a great strike by Courtney Linton crashed against the
bar with the keeper well beaten. The Braves looked dangerous
now and had the home side on the defensive, particularly
from set plays. Unfortunately they were unable to fashion
an equaliser and at the interval the home side led by
the only goal.
After the break,
the Braves took the game to Enfield. Their dominance
had the home defence stretched and Dean Frett had a
good effort saved and within minutes only the keepers
legs denied Courtney Linton the equaliser. Tom Nyama,
making a welcome return after injury, was introduced
into the fray and soon had an impact . He ran at the
home defence, laid the ball off to Joe May who in turn
picked out skipper Dean Frett and he made no mistake
and cooly put away a well deserved equaliser for the
Manor.
The Braves went
searching for the winner now and a great cross from
Richard Simpson was fired over the bar by Courtney Linton.
The game drew to a close with the visitors well on top
and possibly feeling they might have got all 3 points
from the match.
