Essex Senior League

Saturday 23rd January 2010 - Kick Off 3pm

The Braves at long last managed to get a match arranged. The Stansted pitch was in fair condition considedring the bad weather of late. Both sides started off jockeying for advantage and sleepy Manor defence almost allowed the home side to open the scoring but a smart save by the braves keeper, Michael Wakefield kept the home side at bay.

Neither side really took control in the first half although Manor striker Danny Clark went close a couple of times. This half was noteworthy only for the eccentric decisions of referee Mr Roguez. The second half started in a much more positive vein with both keepers pulling off great saves. Stansted looked the more likely up front and took the lead when the Manor central defence failed to attack a high ball and the young Stansted striker volleyed home an instinctive shot, 1-0 to the home side.

In fairness the visitors tried to strike back quickly but they were deflated when a crass refereeing decision gave the home side a penalty and this was despatched to put them 2 up. Worse was to follow for the Braves when skipper Dean Frett was dismissed, rightly so but with the referee and his assistants having missed the original bad foul on him.

The Stansted third goal came, again courtesy of the ineffective officials, after a foul in mid field went unpunished. Still the Braves battled on and took the game to their opponents and scored a late consolation through Chris Barrett and looked at the end the fitter side but Stansted ran out winners 3-1.

Manor Manager Kevin Durrant said, "It would have been interesting if we could have kept the score to 1-0 until near the last quarter as we looked strong towards the end, but poor refereeing denied us that opportunity. Full credit to the lads as we kept going, even with 10 men. Good Luck to Stansted on their run in as they attempt to stay near the top of the league."
