Essex Senior League - League Cup

Wednesday 26th August 2009 - Kick Off 7.45pm

The Manor started this game in fine style and It was not long before skipper Dean Frett nade a good header across the visitors goal but was unable to find a Manor attacker. The visitors keeper was being kept busy and made a couple of good saves from firstly a Manor free kick and then from the lively Joe May.

Any sporadic high ball attacks by Basildon had been smartly dealt with by the Manor keeper. It looked a racing certainty that the Manor would take the lead and so it proved when a good ball from the left was threaded on through by Dean Frett to Courtney Linton who finished off a good move. 1-0 to the Manor.

The home side were dominant in midfield but aerial threats from the visitors were still giving the home defence problems. Both sides went close but come the break , no additions to the score. After the interval Basildon came out in more determined mood and the home side conceded neadless free kicks and from one of these came the Visitors equaliser, 1-1. The Manors poor defending was cause for concern but they still managed to go in front when Richard Simpson restored the lead with a typical brave header, 2-1 to the Braves.

Not to be out done Basildon came back strongly and their long ball, muscular approach paid off again as they pounced on a long clearance to put away the equaliser. The Manor had a great chance to restore their lead but Man of the Match Courtney Linton was unable to repeat his previous goal and fired over the bar.

The home side rang the changes with subs but were unable to break down a resolute, no nonsense Basildon side and so the score remained 2-2 at the final whistle. Manager Kevin Durrant and his staff were bitterly disappointed at the teams current inability to defend sensibly and to instructions at the back.
