The Braves continued
in fine form after their mid week win. High flying Sawbridgeworth
were the visitors, arriving with a selection of Bishops
Stortford players. The opening exchanges were relatively
even and the only real early action was courtesy of
the Manor's Joe Nightingill who fired a fierce effort
just over.
Sawbridgeworth
replied with an effort that was well saved by Manor
keeper Michael Wakefield after the home defence had
been outjumped. The Braves powered forward and a great
free kick by Paul Marin set up Chris Barrett whose firm
header was ably saved. The home side were well on top
now and strikers Danny Clarke and Courtney Linton kept
the visitors defence at full stretch.
Danny Clarke
saw a goal ruled out for offside after lofting the ball
neatly over the goalkeeper and Paul Marin struck the
post from the free kick. A great flowing move ended
with Paul Marins fierce effort flying just over.
Soon after this,
Danny Clarke held up and shielded a good ball up to
him, his one two with Paul Marin enabled the former
to nod the ball over a static visitors defence to skipper
Dean Frett who volleyed home emphatically to put the
Braves one up with the last kick of the half.
After the break
the Manor went searching for another goal and it came
courtesy of Manny Sackey who slotted home a fine penalty
after the irrepressible Danny Clarke had been up ended
by the goalkeeper.
It was one way
traffic now and great efforts from Paul Marin and Danny
Clarke just failed to add to the score. The visitors,
to their credit went all out for a reply and the Braves
keeper pulled off a superb save on 80 minutes to deny
them.
Apart from this
effort not much else troubled a home defence, expertly
marshalled by Neil Barratt. Late efforts from Paul Marin
after good work by Richard Simpson and Carl Bailey flew
just wide and the Braves ran out comfortable and worthy
2-0 winners.
Manor Manager
Kevin Durrant said,"I am so pleased that we are
now showing passion and a resolute attitude to go with
our undoubted ability. We have a tough schedule coming
up and this sets a standard for us to play to."
